It wasn’t so long ago that I thought that writing Modern, and then Sci-Fi Sagas would be a simple venture. After all, I had the system built already. Why shouldn’t it just be a quick little bit of formatting and some extra odds and ends tapped in?

Now, as I am getting into the final phases of the core of Modern, I am telling myself the same thing about sci-fi. I keep thinking that I have all I really need, just  a few minor additions and some formatting stuff. Ya-da-ya-da. It feels like it would be a simple little breeze. Only, after my experience with Modern I know this to not be true.

Modern Sagas has already been like re-inventing the wheel. Its still the same wheel, but it has a different look and feel, and some extra moving parts. Entire new systems are developed using the rules, but they are still systems. Most of it is reflective of things you saw in Fantasy Sagas, like the similarities between the magic and computer programs. There is also alot more equipment.

I am finnishing up some of the components for the computer systems now. Then I have to stat out alot of the new equipment, including vehicles. I think computers will be done this weekend, and the vehicles and eq throughout the week. I have to revise a little of the adventuring chapter as well, but that is mostly transposing as there isn’t alot of difference between the two settings in that regard. The final phase is the appendices. I ahve to create five NPC archetypes and the programs. These go pretty quickly though as I have some tools at my disposal to make them easier as well.

All in all, we are looking to be right on schedule with being able to release by fall for the demo version. The press version will still need an editor’s touch. This is something that is worrying me a bit. My two editors still not able to work on this book, so I am looking for a new one. This looks like the only thing that will ultimately hold up the final release. However, you should have a working demo version within a few weeks. If I am lucky, by Halloween.

Then comes my big decision; work on Sci-FI Sagas like I should, or work on some of the other projects I’ve been wanting to do. If you have an opinion on this, I would like to know it. We have a list of projects at our jobs page. There are two other projects that are secret though. These are supliments that I don’t want to release any info on just yet, until I get a working outline and structure for them. So, if demand for Sci-Fi Sagas outweights these other projects then I’ll probably quench my thirst on one of the other projects. I know which ones I want to finnish first, but you may have other ideas. Let us know what you think.
