Modern Sagas Development Log

Its amazing to look back at 2007 and find what has happened, and what has not. I finally released the beta of the Modern Sagas Player’s Guidebook. It is, ultimately, final. It still needs the editor’s touch, and the archetypes aren’t built. However, it is done. What surprises me is how long it took. I expected to release it not long after Fantasy Sagas. I am astonished to find that I am releasing over a year and a half later!

It’s Christmas eve. Music plays throughout the house. It is a wreck here. Presents and paper is scattered everywhere. I caught a flight this morning after waking up at 4 am to get myself and the family back home after a week in Ohio. It is a good day, and I am happy. (more…)

Sorry folks, I am running behind. My family, and myself, got really sick over the weekend so not much work got accomplished. Not time for a more detailed post, as I am trying to cram in 4 days worth of work in as quickly as possible. Hopefully soon.

Know what I have on my desk this very minute? I have it! The first draft of the entire Modern Sagas Player’s Guidebook (sans index and appendices). So far, and without the final formatting, it weighs in at over 150 (for comparison’s sake the same content in FSPGB only came in at about 120 pages). (more…)

Some people want to play games because they are fun. They are a fantasy, even if they are set in modern or historical worlds. They are adventures. Some people, like myself, will play games for this reason, but also play them for an experience. I always wanted my games to convey an experience. Fantasy Sagas was developed because of my experience and how much better I thought these could be represented in an RPG. However, even when writing fantasy I had real world inspiration. This inspiration is even more pronounced when writing modern. This article is about my inspiration, my heroes.

I had said it would take a whole lot of things working in my favor to get finnished by the end of last week. Well, no surprises that this did not happen. Not some things didn’t work out. I think it was more of the project itself not having worked in my favor. (more…)

It wasn’t so long ago that I thought that writing Modern, and then Sci-Fi Sagas would be a simple venture. After all, I had the system built already. Why shouldn’t it just be a quick little bit of formatting and some extra odds and ends tapped in?

Now, as I am getting into the final phases of the core of Modern, I am telling myself the same thing about sci-fi. I keep thinking that I have all I really need, just  a few minor additions and some formatting stuff. Ya-da-ya-da. It feels like it would be a simple little breeze. Only, after my experience with Modern I know this to not be true. (more…)

So, its fall. This means that our release date has to fall within the next few months or we have missed our window. No big deal, no stress. Not really. Ok, tons, but thats the breaks.

Modern Sagas Player’s Guidebook Draft

Alright, its here. Better late than never. Get yourself a nice sneak peak at Modern Sagas. I know its only the first couple chapters, but we can’t give it all away. And bear in mind that this is a draft, and some portions, especially skills, still need to be finnished. The document is up so you can see and post your feedback on the new look of the book, not the actual content. Of course, if you have suggestions for things you want to see in Modern Sagas you can post those in the Modern Sagas Suggestion Thread.

 Enjoy.

So the graphic design has met with approval so far. That’s good enough for me, and late comers to add their opinions can do so still. As it stands, we’re running with the current design. (more…)
